Federal Gov’t, TPLF Start Heavy Weapons Handover

Addis Ababa January 11/2023 /ENA/Following the peace agreement signed between the federal government and TPLF in South Africa and Kenya, the first handing over of heavy weapons took over yesterday, according to Ethiopian Defense Force.

Military observers from different countries attended the handing over that took place in Agula, 36 kilometers from the regional capital, Mekelle.

The military personnel assigned in the area, Lieutenant colonel Aleme Tadele expressed of receiving different heavy weapons in accordance to the agreement signed between the federal government and TPLF.

Among the heavy weapons that TPLF has handed over to the national defense force include armored tanks, various size artilleries, rockets, mortars among others, he said.

The handing over ceremony was held in the presence of the African Union observers, he added.

During the occasion, the observers hailed the handing over of heavy weapons as it further strengthens the ongoing implementation of the peace agreement.
